Diese Platte muss deprimierend sein für jeden Musiker, der bereits seit ein paar Jahren in Bands spielt. Da kommen vier blutjunge Dänen daher, mit nichts außer Hass in der Magengegend, und dreschen mal schnell zwölf räudige Stomper herunter. Ja, man muss Post-Punk nicht automatisch melodiös spielen, man darf die Betonung gerne auf Kraft und Dringlichkeit legen. Iceage haben ihren völlig eigenen Sound im Dreieck zwischen Wave, Hardcore und Punk gefunden und walzen ihn aus, bis alle Ohren klingeln. Bei diesem Album dauert das insgesamt nur 25 Minuten, und das ist vielleicht das einzige schwere Manko an »New Brigade«. Aber wer ein derart eckiges Riff wie jenes zu Beginn von »Broken Bone« mit einer solchen Energie auf Band bannen kann, von dem ist noch viel zu erwarten.

This record has to be depressing for any musician who has already been playing in bands for a couple of years. Here come this four very young Danes with nothing but hatred in their guts, and they quickly knock out twelve tough stompers. Yes, you do not necessarily have to play post-punk tunefully, you can also put the emphasis on force and urgency. Iceage discovered their very own sound in the triangle between wave, hardcore, and punk and they bash it out until everyone’s ears are burning. In the case of this record, it takes a total of 25 minutes – which probably is the only flaw of »New Brigade«. But anyone who is able to capture as edgy a riff as that at the beginning of »Broken Bone« on tape with such an amount of energy can be expected to come up with much more. (8/10)
