Begonnen haben Wolfgang Bruckner, Stephan »Ebs« Ebert und Olaf Schuberth (alle in ihren 20ern und am Studieren) die gemeinsame Band Diver verteilt auf die Städte Berlin, München und Wien. Internet statt Proberaum. Gemeinsam wurden so – hauptsächlich an Akustikgitarren – Lieder gemäß dem Ansatz erarbeitet, minimalistische Musik mit viel Raum für die Stimme(n) und die Texte zu entwickeln. Mittlerweile sind alle drei wieder in der Donaumetropole Wien ansässig, die bewährte Arbeitsweise, die eigenen Beiträge zur Musik erst für sich zu formulieren, behielten sie aber bewusst bei. In die zwölf Songs ihres Albums »Kites« steckten sie mit Produzent Lukas Turnovsky, dessen Klassik- und Jazz- Background der Musik zusätzliche Ebenen eröffnete, ein halbes Jahr Arbeit. »Kites« (schoenwetter schallplatten) ist dabei kein Konzeptalbum, sagen sie. Es sei darum gegangen, »festzuhalten, was man gemacht hat und was man gerade tut«.
»Summer«, die erste Single, Albumvorbote »Illusions« und die anderen Stücke profitieren vom konzentriert eingesetzten erweiterten Instrumentarium (Piano, Streicher, Fagott, ...), ohne dass der Musik die entspannte und entspannende Klarheit verloren geht, die ästhetische Besonderheit, mit knappen Mitteln viel zu erreichen und zu transportieren. Die Melancholie der Lieder ist nicht lebensmüde, lebenssatt – im Interview fällt der Satz »wir leben unsere Texte« – sondern eine lebensbejahende, sich nach der Decke der eigenen Sehnsüchte streckende. »It’s not that we didn’t enjoy every second«, heißt es in »Summer«. Dass diesen drei jungen Männern (ihre) Musik extrem wichtig ist, offenbart sich in jedem Ton und Takt, im genau gesetzten warmen Klang von »Kites«. Ein lohnender akustischer Tauchgang!

The first single »Summer«, »Illusions«, which preceded the album, and the other songs profit from the concentrated employment and extension of instruments (piano, strings, bassoon, ...) without robbing the music of its relaxed and relaxing clarity, the aesthetic distinctiveness to achieve and convey a lot with narrow means. The melancholia of the songs is not world-weary, depressed – during the interview they say: »we are living our lyrics« – but life-affirming, reaching for one’s highest aspirations. »It’s not that we didn’t enjoy every second«, they sing in »Summer«. The fact that these three young men take (their) music extremely seriously becomes obvious in every note and beat, in the exactly put warm sound of »Kites«. A worthwhile acoustic dive.
